The Guilty Party

DIRECTOR’S NOTES / CRISTIAN MEDELLIN

Learning by finishing.

I had always thought about being part of the film industry, but it felt impossible. In 2020, I wanted to test myself: could I finish a short film, and could I make something with quality?

I invested time in writing and teaching myself to edit, and money in entry-level filmmaking equipment. With friends who had no filmmaking experience, and a cast with only one experienced actor, we completed a film running 46 minutes.

Looking back, there is plenty I would improve. But I’m happy we finished it, and I wouldn’t change the people who helped me get there. This film is part of where the work began.
